On Tuesday, December 16th, the world was outraged after the school shooting in Peshawar, Pakistan. Bullets from 9 men of Pakistani Taliban slaughtered 132 innocent school children. In retaliation for military of Pakistan intervening against in Taliban plans in North Waziristan, these 9 gun man threw grenades, shot bullets and wore suicide vests, killing 145 people in all.
"They were there to kill, and that is what they did" said a security official. You might ask if there is a method to their madness; revenge can not be the only reason behind this 9 hour standoff in the Army Public school. There are many theories which include the fight against equal rights for girls, education, and to indirectly hurt those of Pakistans army by killing off their children who enrol in the army school. No matter the theory, the second worst school shooting under the 186 students of Russia who were killed in 2004, has both touched and spread rage as well as sympathy in the international community. Within the small communities, mosques of the Israeli community are filled with those who grieve. One of the gunman was thought to speak Arabic, a language she of a rivaling religion. Could this be another reason for this horrific and devastating incident?
These theories are endless but what we do know is that it is no way to retaliate. "Fight with men, not innocent children" a peace activist states.
"Animals" says another.
"They want to tell the public that the Taliban can hit them, and hit them hard, and the military can't do anything about it"
"Blood has been boiling and heart has been crying all day" the peace activists states once more.
These quotes transfer the reactions, theories, rage, as well as sympathy that ha been presented over the past days following this tragedy. There are many more questions, no doubt that there will be more comments, and possibly more violence; we can not predict the future, so for now, mourn those that were lost and enjoy the holiday season as best you can. There is a lot of ba in this world, but it is important that we celebrate the good as well.
