The Ebola update for this week is that the man in Texas was pronounced dead this week after fighting the virus. The death toll has raised to 4000 in West Africa and now that the United States has Ebola in the country, many are frightened to travel.
"People shouldn't miss seeing their friends and family for Ebola" an expert from CNN explains.
So why is this so? Why shouldn't we be afraid of the virus. The reasoning the article says is simple. Because of the lacking of help and sanitary aspects of the West African countries, many have to deal with their dead and live friends and families with no protective gear. The said choice has come to be, watch your friend suffer an slowly die or provide comfort and ease the pain risking your own health and well being to do so. For many, the choice is simple and they treat patients like any other human, mostly leaving them in contact with bodily fluids. So as you can see, the poor countries are more vulnerable to the virus mentally because all they have and do is for each other. The United States on the other hand has the sanitary products, doctors, and correct techniques that I payed for with money Africa does not have.
Although this seems unfair and wrong, we as Americans have less to worry about because of our money. We are able to protect our citizens with medical examinations at airports and doctors and research teams that can look into and prevent and isolate the virus.
As I heard that the man in Texas has died and another was diagnosed in Massachusetts I was honestly scared. After reading this article, the main thing people need to remember is that the virus is not airborne and we are in good hands. The virus is a scary concept and the world and money play a role in the spreading and prevention of the virus much more than one might think.
